Goddess Eyes

New Altar Series

In this Annus Horribilis, this new Altar Series has been a real comfort to me.  There’s something palliative about the simple choosing, the small joy of one beautiful stone in contrast with another.

Many cultures have Goddess Eyes. My favorite is the Egyptian Eye of Maat. She was the goddess of law, justice and morality and was believed to hold the universe together. Appropriate for our times….

Stones are thought to have energetic qualities, the clearer the stone, the higher the energy. Personally, the stones that are said to be at the bottom of the spectrum are the ones that speak loudest to me.  There is a lovely gentleman from Quebec who sells Fairy Stones at the Tucson Gem Show. When I walk into his room with amazing Fairy Stones all around me, time freezes. It’s completely magical. Restful.  When I discover some amazing new stone at a gem show or out rockhounding, I’ll ask my geologist friends to identify it – and sure enough, it’s a concretion.  Definitely my first choice in stones.

But, for most people, crystals are mesmerizing. It has been fun making these new Altars. Restful, satisfying in these anxiety-ridden times….
